President Jair Bolsonaro sanctioned this Friday (4) The law authorizing students from public and private networks to lose evidence and classes for religious reasons. The rule does not apply to military colleges.
According to the text of the Law 13.796/2019 (Read the full), the educational institution is obliged to restore, without any loss or cost to the student, the content lost for religious reasons. The replacement can be done by extra classes or application of works, in different days or shifts, to be defined by the institution and with the student’s endorsement.
However, the student must inform the school or faculty in advance. The form and deadline of the communication will be chosen freely by pedagogical coordination.
In the House of Deputies, the rapporteur was from Maria do Rosário (PT-RS), who delivered a favorable and conclusive opinion, that is, that it waived the vote in plenary. For Maria do Rosário, the law guarantees the constitutional precept of religious freedom.
The law enters into force in 60 days and educational institutions have up to two years to adapt.
